Case Study

Seamless High Performance Roof Insulation and Stabilisation

Client:

Barn conversion contractor: conversion of 6 solid wall barns at Lavant

Problem:

Solid wall construction did not meet Building Regulations Part L requirements. The property could not be externally clad as the external appearance could not be changed due to Planning Regulations. Using conventional insulation products on the inner wall to achieve U values of 0.35 W/m2K required high thicknesses that severely reduced the available floor space area. Conventional insulation products would also not provide a low air-leakage value nor would the be resistant to moisture penetration from driving rain etc.

Solution:

Stud out the wall internally with timber; spray apply Duratherm® rigid polyurethane to the wall, to the required thickness, to achieve the target U value, finish off with plasterboard.

Outcome:

Well insulated properties meeting Building Regulations Part L requirements, with maximised internal floor area. The external appearance of the property was unchanged and the property also had eliminated draughts and the resultant low air leakage volume, ensured that the living areas were very comfortable.
