the problem

Homesford Water Treatment Works supplies Nottingham with drinking water and has a capacity of 65 million litres per day. It is on the flood plain of the River Trent and a rise in water level of 9 inches could put at risk the specialised filtration equipment and compromise the ability to supply Nottingham with clean water. Severn Trent wanted to make the buildings as flood resilient as possible.

the solution

Technitherm® was installed into the 50mm brick‐brick cavity wall to a height of 1.5m to protect against an anticipated maximum flood height of 1.2m. Working alongside other flood protection measures, Technitherm® prevents any flood water penetrating the walls and because of its structural adhesive properties, will prevent any structural damage to the walls.

the outcome

Technitherm® has made these cavity walls flood resilient, by preventing flood waters penetrating the walls and has improved the structural strength of the walls to withstand the forces of any future flood waters. Technitherm®, being a rigid closed cell material is the best performing type of cavity wall product according to a report issued by DEFRA, and The Environment Agency. Rigid closed cell materials, retain their physical integrity and are fully waterproof.
