Insulation and Structural Stability in Walthamstow

Priory Court Estate

An unusual construction using a combination of hollow terracotta block inner leaf with a brick outer leaf and no wall ties. The Priory Court Estate housing needed to be insulated and future proofed as part of the Urban Regeneration Programme. The inner leaf blocks were broken and crumbling meaning they offered no means of support or fixing for the planned addition of outer cladding and a new roof.

The Project

An unusual construction using a combination of hollow terracotta block inner leaf with a brick outer leaf and no wall ties. The Priory Court Estate housing needed to be insulated and future proofed as part of the Urban Regeneration Programme. The inner leaf blocks were broken and crumbling meaning they offered no means of support or fixing for the planned addition of outer cladding and a new roof.

The Solution

Technitherm® structural insulation was injected into the cavity. Technitherm® filled the broken blocks giving them new strength whilst at the same time bonding the inner and outer leaves creating a strong, stable structure ideal for the fixing and support of the new cladding and roof structure.

The Outcome

A highly stable and well insulated structure, save from demolition and capable of continuing its purpose for many years to come. Insulation was improved to Building Regulation standards, reducing energy costs and the carbon footprint of the building.
