Insulation of a steel-hulled ship, which required a high
insulation value and rapid application to achieve a deadline for
the client. Only polyurethane foam could achieve the insulation
value required at the thickness specified, but the project
deadline required that the application be spray applied and be
completed when the ambient temperature was
below Zero degrees C.
The Solution:
The steel hull of the ship was sprayed with
Thermadek Winter Grade spray foam, at a thickness of
100mm to achieve the required insulation value. Thermadek
cured within minutes, even at the sub-zero temperatures and
even on such a massive “heat-sink” as the steel hull. Adhesion
to the steel was excellent and the cured foam was robust with
excellent physical and insulation properties.
The Outcome:
The client achieved the deadline on the project for his customer
who was delighted that the ship was finished on time, despite
the adverse weather conditions.
