| The Client: |
Barn conversion contractor: conversion of 6 solid wall barns at Lavant |
| |
|
| The Problem: |
Solid wall construction did not meet Building Regulations Part L requirements. The property could not be externally clad as the external appearance could not be changed due to Planning Regulations. Using conventional insulation products on the inner wall to achieve U values of 0.35 W/mēK required high thicknesses that severely reduced the available floor space area. Conventional insulation products would also not provide a low air-leakage value nor would they be resistant to moisture penetration from driving rain etc.

| |
|
| The Solution: |
Stud out the wall internally with timber; spray apply DurathermŪ rigid polyurethane to the wall to the required thickness to achieve the target U value, finish off with plasterboard.

| |
|
| The Outcome: |
Well insulated properties meeting Building Regulations Part L requirements, with maximised internal floor area. The external appearance of the property was unchanged and the property also had eliminated draughts and the resultant low air leakage value ensured that the living areas were very comfortable. |
