Spray foam insulation: A solution to air leakage

Written By Peter Lawson

WHAT IS AIR LEAKAGE?

Air leakage is defined as “the uncontrolled movement of air in and out of a building which is not for the specific purpose of exhausting stale air or bringing in fresh air” and it is one of the many problems facing house builders and those converting properties today.

As pressure builds up within a property air will escape through many gaps. These gaps are often not even noticeable within the construction and can be tiny cracks or gaps where materials don’t fit perfectly.

WHY IS IT AN ISSUE?

Building regulations contain increasing demands for the house builder and renovator relating to air pressure that must be met. In addition to these requirements air leakage can cause discomfort due to draughts and reduce the thermal efficiency of the property costing the occupiers money through increased energy bills.

SPRAY FOAM insulation SOLUTION

Our spray foam insulation product, Duratherm®, can provide a solution by forming a seamless insulation layer. It seals all the gaps, bonds to the timbers and provides and airtight insulation that all but eliminates air leakage where it is applied.

It can be used effectively in many different types of property including timber frame properties providing insulation and the ability to meet building regulations in one application. All spray foam insulation work using Duratherm® is carried out by our approved contractors who go through a training and accreditation process before gaining approval to ensure the quality of workmanship.
